Paeonian Springs – Leesburg, VA
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Paeonian Springs is a small community in Virginia’s Loudoun County. It is located along State Route 9 (Charles Town Pike) at the intersection of State Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway). The area looks much as it did at the turn of the century, retaining its quaint charm in the country cottages and Victorian homes.
In addition, one can find several newer single-family homes in the area with all the modern conveniences of today. With plenty of open area and country gravel roads, it has the added benefit of the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop.
Paeonian Springs Public Schools
The Paeonian Springs’ local school district rates higher than the state average in quality. Elementary schools are located within five miles of the hamlet and include the following:

• Catoctin Elementary
• Leesburg Elementary
• Ball’s Bluff Elementary
From these schools, students will continue their education at Smart’s Mill Middle School for grades six through eighth. They will finish at Loudoun County High School during grades nine to twelve. The high school test scores meet or exceed the state average in a variety of subjects.
Attractions near Paeonian Springs
The area around Paeonian Springs is home to many of the regions finest wineries. Hunters Run Winery and Tasting Barn, Casanel Vineyards, Dry Mill Vineyards and Winery, and the Village Winery offer guests tours and tastings.
Those who are avid golfers will find a variety of challenging courses nearby. The public Westpark Golf Club has an 18-hole course, driving range, and an indoor hitting area. At Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club you can find Virginia’s only Gary Player Signature design course.
Chase Run Stable has everything the equestrian would want. With over 25 acres of land and 20 onsite horses, you can come for a day of riding through scenic paths, including the W&OD Trail. Both private and group riding lessons are available, and the stables can host birthday parties and other events throughout the year.
Residents and visitors to Paeonian Springs will find several interesting shops scattered around the area. Among these they’ll find the Glenfiddich Farm Pottery Gallery featuring salt glazed stoneware by Richard Burch. Come view the many stunning pieces in the studio or purchase one for your own home.
Local Parks and Outdoor Recreation
Morven Park sits on 1,100 acres with horse trails, historic buildings, gardens, and museums. It is a great place to spend an afternoon, as there is something for everyone. The highlight of this park is the restored home of Governor Westmoreland Davis who served from 1918 to 1922.
The Audubon Naturalist Society Rust Sanctuary near Paeonian Springs is a beautiful 68-acre preserve. Guests can hike or walk about the grounds, viewing the wildlife and formal gardens. Picnic areas are also available.
